Surfing and al fresco English breakfasts on the beach in Scarborough

I love the English seaside in autumn; those bright, crisp sunny days with a nip in the air are the perfect opportunity to grab a blanket and enjoy breakfast al fresco.

One of our favourite spots at the moment is the Watermark Café in Scarborough. With spectacular views over the crashing waves of North Bay to the castle on the headland, the Watermark serves one of the best full English breakfasts on the East Coast [hotly contested!].

We get there early as the sun is low in the horizon and enjoy the fresh sea air and locally sourced bacon and eggs. Thick wedges of hot buttered toast get us set for the day, and occasionally if the tide is right we’ll head to Dexters Surf Shop close by and hire a surfboard and wetsuit and head out into the sea.

Scarborough enjoys some of the cleanest beaches along the East coast, and is also a great value place to surf with full day hire of boards and suits from just £30. It’s the best workout you can wish for and a great way to enjoy the English coastline from a different perspective. The views you get are amazing! Though if your full English has left you too full to contemplate diving into the surf, you can always sit and watch the surfers bobbing around on the waves with a strong coffee from the Watermark.
